Lady Jackets Almost Ready for Preseason Opener

It is hard to believe that we are in our fourth week of practice, because time has gone so fast. In the last four weeks, though, we have all learned so much (and are still learning), and we have all become a lot closer as a team.
At first, our main focus at practice was offense: learning plays, practicing shooting, practicing getting open, etc.  Now our focus is on defense. Our four Cornerstones of Defense are: Talk, Work Together, Pressure the Ball, and No Second Chances. Every day we work together to better ourselves, and by doing so, it will help us become a strong defensive team in the HCAC.
It is hard to believe that we start the season Tuesday already against Olivet, but I think we are almost ready for it. We feel like we are all very close as a team. Each day we learn more about each other and each other’s style of play. With so many girls, it has taken us a bit longer to get to know everyone, but now, we are all close friends on the court and off. By working hard each day at practice, continuing to learn, and staying close friends, we will have a very positive season.

Jackets Discuss Schedule, Practice, Boo Bowling and Jacket Madness

It is now the beginning of November, and all basketball fans know what that means - it is basketball season! The whole team is getting very excited for our upcoming events. On November 16th, we will open the season at Olivet College.
In practice, we have been working intently on pressure defense and the quick style of play we want on offense. In addition, we have been working on implementing our zone defense. We also have been focusing on not allowing teams second chances, so we have been doing many rebounding drills. If we do not box out or rebound in practice, we do push-ups to help remind us for the next time, and of course to make us stronger!
Recently, we participated in BOO Bowling at Holiday Lanes with all the other DC sports teams. It was also a costume party, so members of the team dressed up for the occasion, bowled and ate pizza. This was sponsored by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) so it was free to all athletes. Jacket Madness is on November 4th, and all students on campus have the opportunity to participate in a three-point shooting contest with our players joining in the fun. The purpose of this event is to introduce both men’s and women’s basketball teams and gear up the campus community for Yellow Jacket basketball.
Go Jackets!
